Payne, Jr. Joins Newly Formed Congressional Voting Rights Caucus

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) announced today that he has joined the newly formed Congressional Voting Rights Caucus, which is dedicated to protecting our democracy by ensuring that the fundamental right to vote is safeguarded for all Americans.

The group is chaired by Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33).  The new group is committed to working together to educate the public about their rights as voters, advance legislation that blocks current and future suppression tactics, empower the next generation of voters, and brainstorm creative ways to bring the U.S. election process into the 21st Century.

“America is a nation built on the democratic process, and when that process is broken for any of us, it impacts all of us and the values we stand for as Americans,” said Congressman Payne, Jr. “I am proud to join the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus to protect and strengthen the fundamental right to vote for all Americans, not just some. Democracy cannot flourish until voting rights are fully reinstated in this country, and that is something I will keep fighting for every day.”

Congressman Payne, Jr. is a cosponsor of the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2015, a bill that extends federal oversight to states with histories of voter suppression.
